Grand pianos are fragile and must be cared for properly. Often, people want to showcase their piano in areas that will provide it with the most exposure to guests, such as living, ball or sun rooms. However, while pianos look great in these areas, they could also be vulnerable if they’re close to windows.
Ultraviolet (UV) light, along with heat and moisture, will damage wood over time. Light causes wood to fade or darken and water will make wood warp or crack. Prevent damage by following these two steps:
1. Block UV rays
Window films, like 3M window films, do a great job at reflecting UV rays. 3M sun control window films can reject up to 60 percent of the heat coming through windows, block up to 99 percent of UV rays and allow up to 70 percent of visible light through.
If you have a grand piano located in a room with windows, consider installing films. They are simple to install—place them over the inside of your exterior windows—and easy to remove if necessary.
2. Stabilize house temperatures
Extreme shifts in hot and cold temperatures can dramatically affect your grand piano. The most ideal room temperature for a piano is at 68 degrees Fahrenheit and 42 percent relative humidity.
To better stabilize room temperature, think about installing window films to block a tremendous amount of heat radiating from the sun.

what is out there for DIY to use for protecting uv and heat impacting my grand piano
can I purchase this product from you or a local provider
thanks
Since 3M backs most of their products with lifetime warranties, they must be installed by 3M trained installers. DIY films will not perform anywhere near the levels of 3M’s professionally installed films.
